Une définition du transport des unités de mesure dans TradeXML est nécessaire pour fournir de manière structurée ces informations importantes des fournisseurs au PIMS et du PIMS aux partenaires commerciaux.

Les types d'unités de mesure sont conçus pour répondre aux critères suivants :
- PCE: Pour des informations sur l'unité de mesure d'un produit unique.
- CAT1: Pour les informations sur l'unité de mesure de l'intérieur du carton.
- CAT2: Pour les informations sur l'unité de mesure de l'intérieur du carton.
- CAT: Pour les informations sur l'unité de mesure de l'extérieur du carton.
- LAY: Pour les informations sur l'unité de mesure de la couche.
- PAL: Pour les informations sur l'unité de mesure de la palette.
- CON: Pour les informations sur l'unité de mesure du conteneur.
